Traditional Heavy Metal is alive and well in America! Jack Frost’s Seven Witches is an awesome act to see live if they come by your town! I had the opportunity to shoot their photo the other night. Totally rockin’ show, very cool guys, and awesome music. I thought I would post a few of my favorites from the night. Enjoy!

I just finished a photo shoot for heavy metal band Burning Shadows. (You can also visit them on their Burning Shadows MySpace Page) I definitely wished the lighting engineer used less red that evening. Note to any lighting engineers…complete red wash might make bands seem much scarier…but it makes photographers get annoyed very quickly! (…hahaha, I guess I can say I was seeing red!!!) Not every gig can have stadium spotlights and fifty different color gels…oh well! Being serious though, it was an awesome gig the band had in Virginia. Their new lineup is great and they have new music coming soon! If you like metal, I would check them out.

The New Leica M9 on DPReview

I miss the smooth feel of a metal button actually releasing a shutter
I miss the aperture ring and smooth focus ring on a metal lens.
I miss the smell of Italian leather on a thin and compact body when its pressed on my face.
I miss looking through a viewfinder that makes me feel immersed in a world I am creating.
I miss having a sleek little camera hanging from my side…and not getting looks of “who is he, what is he doing, and why does he have a camera that big!”
I miss the feel of being able to create images spontaneously without having to plan what equipment I can take and what will weigh me down.
I miss having a camera that does not feel digital.
I don’t miss chemical dark rooms.
I don’t miss having only 200speed film when i’ve run out of 800 and the light has faded.
I don’t miss having to load film in the worst possible situations.

I have just discovered a camera that reignites what I love about cameras.

No, I don’t feel like a computer guru with imaging devices anymore…I feel like a photographer!

I cannot wait to get one of my own!

I got lost while driving through the country recently …as usual! Left with no choice, my companions and I had to stop for directions. Actually I was navigating that day and Google Maps was way off course for once. (and we left our GPS 300 miles away…) So…the only place around…Smiley’s Fuel City! This is THE PLACE to get cigarettes, sodas, and showers! …Showers?!?!?! Maybe its just me…but I have never heard of such a thing in my life! Cigarettes, sodas, AND showers! All in one place! Can’t get better than that! This is better than Walmart! Cigarettes, sodas, and showers.

Cigarettes, Sodas, and Showers!

Cigarettes, Sodas, and Showers!

I wonder if this is where the showers are…

Showers!?...Maybe!

Showers!?...Maybe!

So I did something the other day we are all advised never to do. I looked at the sun through my camera. Well, i’ve done that before and learned my lesson, but this time I wanted to see what would happen with live view. (not for long either, I didn’t want to burn my sensor or something…)

So I had my 5DII with a 100mm Macro lens. I set the camera to live view and stopped down to F32. (1/125 at ISO 200) I was expecting some kind of sun star and / or weird flare. I never expected this! No post processing either, this is basically straight from the camera. How interesting!
